The second day of the Europe + Asia Event Forum was marked by a session “The role of convention bureau in the industry development”.
The session was attended by Gebert Janssen, Managing Director, De Feest- & Eventarchitect B.V. (the Netherlands); Miloš Milovanović, former head of Serbia CVB (Belgrade, Serbia); Ksenya Boykova, General Director, Moscow Convention Bureau; Dmitry Levykin, Deputy Director, City Tourist Information Bureau of Saint-Petersburg; and Olga Voytenko, deputy chair of the Department for International Relations, Yekaterinburg City Administration.
All the speakers pointed out that collecting statistical data and studying economic efficiency of events held in the cities are both important functions of convention bureaus. The experts also highlighted the growing number of convention bureaus in a range of cities.
For instance, Ksenya Boykova shared the success story of the Moscow Convention Bureau. She explained that it had been one of the first attempts to set up a convention bureau in Russia. "The convention bureau initiative was promoted by event agencies, and the final decision was later made by the Moscow City Council," she noted. Ms. Boykova also stressed the need for "close cooperation between companies within the industry, if we want to bring Russia to the forefront of event marketing."
